Diane Ehrensaft, PhD

University of California San Francisco
Developmental and Clinical Psychologist
San Francisco/Oakland
Dr. Diane Ehrensaft is an associate professor of Pediatrics at the University of California San Francisco and a developmental and clinical psychologist with a private practice in Oakland, California. Along with her private practice, she is an attending psychologist at the Child and Adolescent Gender Center (CAGC) Clinic at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco and Oakland. As the Director of Mental Health and founding member of the Child and Adolescent Gender Center, she helps provide comprehensive interdisciplinary services and support to gender non-conforming and transgender youth and their families. Her research, clinical work, and consultations have expanded understandings of gender and assisted reproductive technology. At the moment, she is a co-investigator in an NIH 4-site research grant investigating the medical and mental health effects of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones in youth. Some of her most notable works are The Gender Creative Child; Gender Born, Gender Made; and The Gender Affirmative Model: A New Approach to Supporting Gender Diverse and Transgender Children (co-edited with Colt Keo-Meier). We are honored to have her as a Board Member of Gender Spectrum as well.
